Return Crew Day 3 – 10 February 2020

A log by Cam

Hello land lovers! I hope you are all well! I will just start by saying wow! We had a super cool dinner last night. The biryani was awesome the packet of vegetable biryani was so good that both Francois and I (Cameron) who don’t eat veggies ( aka colours) that often managed to finish all of it! Francois was practically eating out the pot!! We even got to eat some mixed fruit from Brazil which was actually super sweet and not looking forward to the next lethal dose.

Since 4 am this morning there has been rain and is continuing to shower those on watch. We have bumped into a few things that have broken that need tending to such as the tiny table at the helm aka the steering wheel, the stack pack lines that keep the stack pack up have broken and torn. This means that if we reef or lower the sail it hangs all over the place instead of in the bag. We have done a temporary fix in the meantime so no need to sweat! Two of the sliders that assist with the raising and lowering of the mains have snapped! We currently are leaving the main sail at reef one. This means that we have lowered it to the first reef aka indicator. Francois thinks he might have some spares so we will be on that as soon as this small storm passes.

The heads aka the bucking bronco took a hit as one of the crew put toilet paper down the broncs! Therefore we Huston we had blockage!!! Our skipper Rory was on it in a flash and fixed our lovely problem. I don’t think any of the crew will be doing that any time in the near future!

Our guest tonight on Who Got on Board! is our on and onllyyy gas master aka Robyn Wolstenholme! Robyn attended Parel vallei and has just passed matric and is 18 turning 19 this year. She has been in Scouting since 2011 from the age of 10 and has enjoyed it so much that she continues to do so even after being a Scout. She is currently now an ATS at 1st Gordons bay! What is an ATS? if you must ask It stands for assistant troop scouter. Robyn gives up her Fridays to give back to the Scouts and provide leadership. She loves Scouts and continues to give back wherever possible! “Why did you come on board?” : I enjoy sailing and I saw It as an opportunity to gain more experience with open water sailing. Robyn is currently taking a gap year in order to discover, travel and spend the next year of her life trying new things and helping out at Scouts! Robyn is currently our Gas Master whenever we enter the galley Robyn is on it and turns the gas on at the back of the boat, risking the cold and the splashy waves. That concludes today’s segment of “Who Got On Board!”

With some good news! We are spending more time inside making food, playing cards, reading and jamming to some good tunes! Notice how I said we are playing cards! We have gotten there!!

For those of you who do not know you can follow our trip through YB Races, just search Cape to Rio and you will see the tracker is still live.
We have currently travelled 390 Nautical Miles!
