Day 30 – Saturday 2 February 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce our decision to retire from Cape2Rio 2020. When we first realised that we were in a race against time, the crew agreed to keep racing until the last possible moment.

With 62nm to go until the finish, and after countless analysis of the weather forecast and boat speed calculations, we reached the conclusion that it would be impossible to cross the finish line within the time limit.

We started our engine at 03h43 UTC-3 on 2 Feb 2020 and expect to arrive in Rio be Janeiro at 14h00 2 Feb 2020.

The entire crew is deeply saddened by us having reached this point. As the skippers, we can confidently say that each and every crew member pushed themselves to constantly give of their best. We didn’t enter this race just to cross an ocean, we entered it to compete in South Africa’s most prestigious offshore race and to represent Scouting.

We may not have achieved our goal but it has certainly been an adventure of a lifetime. We consider ourselves incredibly privileged to have had the opportunity to compete in this race and would like to thank everyone that has supported us since we set sail on this epic journey.
