Day 4 – Big Seas

During the night , the wind and swell picked up  dramatically. Sunrise welcomed us to winds gusting up to 28 knots with 3 metre swells. We reefed in to third reef and adjusted the genoa. The GRIB files were studied and it was decided that although we had initially wanted to go as south as possible in the early days, we would have to readjust our course and head up a bit ,as Peter reminded us that comfort and safety were above speed.

This proved to be a good choice our foul we and we managed to out run most of the squalls. It was hard to believe that only the second day out of Ile Grande, and we were already into our foul weather gear.

Seasickness plaqued a few of the crew, but Joey ,who apparently didn’t exhibit any of the symptoms proved himself a star by taking over many of the chores of the day.

Supper was a tin of tuna and crackers and rice- as much as any of us could stomach as we settled into a bumpy night of our watches.
