How first got involved in sailing and what attracts me to the sport.
Through scouts on Saldahnas and on Optimist dinghies. I find sailing relaxing and enjoy the clear mind I get on the seas.
What my challenges were prior to Cape2Rio and how has this voyage changed my perception of sailing thus far
Raising funds for the race, assisting the skipper in preparing the boat. Thought sailing was only for high brow people but discovered that anyone interested in sailing can take part and there is a demand for any person willing to learn the ropes and make the effort.
How do you see the group dynamic on the yacht and where do you fit in in all of this. What is your role on the yacht?
I like entertaining people and seeing them happy.
What are you looking forward to in Rio and what have you heard about the people of Brazil?
Finding out about the favelas and making contact with a local scout group to whom we will present one of my group’s (1st Bergvliet Sea Scouts) scarves as is traditional for such exchanges.
What my plans are after the Cape 2 Rio experience?
Getting my skipper’s ticket and affording to buy a hobiecat.
